Millions of people all over the world are drinking wine but only few know how to recognize or distinguish its characteristics. Today, wine tasting parties are organized to bring together all wine lovers and test their expertise. It takes a lot of experience and exposure before a person can be called a wine expert. However, becoming one is surprisingly easy. Here are some tips on how to become an effective wine taster:

1.Preparing the tongue.

Obviously, the tongue plays a major role in wine tasting. It contains taste buds that are responsible in detecting if food or drinks being eaten are bitter, salty, sour, or sweet. To make them work as intended, swish wine around the mouth, this will signal the tongue to get ready in identifying the wine.

2.Preparing the sense of smell.

75% of taste is actually dictated by the sense of smell. Aside from the tongue, the nose will also play an important role in tasting a wine. Wine experts know that it isn?t a good idea when tasting a wine while having a running nose or colds because it will affect their sense of taste. In smelling the wine, it is necessary to swirl it first. This will release molecules that produce aroma.

3.Examining the wine?s appearance.

To determine color of the wine, pour it in a clear glass and use white paper or tablecloth for background. This procedure will give you an idea about the age of the wine. For example, when white wine appears whiter it means it contains more flavors and it may be vintage. On the other hand, red wines appear lighter as they age.

4.Evaluating the wine.

After following the first 3 steps, it is time to evaluate the wine. In order to do so, these questions must be answered: Is wine rich or light? Is it too harsh or too smooth? Does it have pleasant aftertaste? Is it too dry? The answers will lead the wine taster to decide if the taste is appropriate for a specific brand or type of wine.

To become an expert wine tester, you need to taste several wines. It would help to keep notes on the impression and labels of each wine. This would make the identification process easier and more accurate. Learning this skill requires a lot of time and experience. Do not be in a hurry to learn itFree Articles, take time to enjoy while doing so.

This week I had the great opportunity to talk with author Mary Ellen Geist. Several years ago Mary Ellen was described by the New York Times as the: Archetypal career woman, a radio news anchor with a six-figure salary and a suitcase always packed for the next adventure, whether a third-world coup, a weekend of wine tasting or a job in a bigger market. But as she saw the growing toll that her father's decline from Alzheimer's was taking on both of her parents, Mary Ellen climbed down from a

Well Madonna just put out a new CD this year, she's still one of those new popular singers, isn't she? Er, well actually her first single was 26 years ago, in 1982. TWENTY SIX YEARS AGO? More on Palin as Typical.

Fri, 05 Sep 2008 14:44:47 PDT
A day or two ago I put up a tome on the degree to which Governor Palin’s small town pedigree is or is not as typical as the credulous GOP leaning commentariat would have you believe. (Surprise: the actual data, as opposed to “facts” glommed out of thin air, show that it is not). Now, because I got obsessed with the fact that a few very wealthy, well dressed, no doubt latte-swigging and expensive wine (French, even!) bozos with teleprompters think that my experience growing up in medium to lar

In 2001, Sarah Palin drove from her Wasilla home, through the downtown streets of Anchorage, to a large home near the bluffs of muddy Cook Inlet. The home belonged to Bill Allen, one of the most influential businessmen and Republican donors in Alaska history. Allen ran the state's largest oil-contracting firm, the ominously named VECO Corp., which contracted with some of the biggest oil producers in the world. Palin was wrapping up her last term as mayor of Wasilla. She had higher political as

Setting the Table for Communion (part one): A Forward Walk

Fri, 05 Sep 2008 03:52:00 PDT
Today I begin a series of posts based on Luke 24:13-34, the "Road to Emmaus". The goal of these writings is to ponder Christ's presence in the midst of a difficult pilgrimage and the eventual table of communion that was shared between Jesus and two of his followers. Perhaps somewhere in our pondering, we will glean some understanding as to how we, too, can taste communion with our Savior in similar measure. As I will with each post, I ask you take some time and read this portion of Scripture
